Here are a few selections from our family of collectors. Enjoy.
"I bought this painting because it captures a moment on Maui, the moment during the canoe building competition when everything is happening, the race to finish is one--yet it's uncommonly quiet, like the time in the afternoon when the wind dies down and everything is still.
Perhaps only in Hawaii can a big public event be so peaceful, or perhaps that was Maggie's way of casting her own magic on the moment. Like a photograph, yet so much more evocative, the painting brings to life an image, a breeze, the rustle of a tree, the scrape of a tool against wood, the sweat of a man, his eyes focused on the blade.
I love this painting because it brings me back to Maui. It hangs over my desk like a window I can gaze through whenever Mainland life gets too tiresome and real, and I long to be back on the island, watching the canoe carvers at the competition, gratefully enjoying another sunny day by the sea." --Greg, California
“I went to Maggie’s studio to pick up my canoe carving painting. Then I noticed a new painting on the wall. It was one of Kenny Tilton shaping a surfboard under a coconut tree. It was spectacular. I would like to think that it was my board she was shaping when she painted him... She named the painting John's Board on the spot. These two pieces are the only original artwork I own and I will always cherish them. Being there for the "capturing" makes it so special." --John on Maui "It is a wonderful piece of work and more than anything captures the spirit of my home. The house is located in Kahana and was for over 50 years the home of my aunt, Emma Sharpe and is part of a family development on Kaopala Bay that has been in our family and lived in by our family for over 200 years. It is place of great spiritual meaning to our family and is the site of many visitors from all over the world. "They are like a tonic--looking at them reminds us of sun and surf and relaxation in beautiful Maui! We love that the 3 small paintings are vignettes, which together contribute a greater sense of island beauty than just one would. They look great presented either vertically and horizontally—we like that versatility. We love that they are small and affordable, and were easy to transport in our suitcase!" --Mark and Elizabeth, California Catherine Murphy, Ontario, Canada
The painting hangs in my home in California as reminder to me of my tie to Maui and this special spot. What Maggie has done, more than anything, is to capture the spirit of this special place and preserve forever this spirit. A day doesn't go by that I don't look at the painting and thank Maggie for what she has captured." --Bastel and Gloria, California
